Complete repair guide on Large and Medium Motor

Tools Needed

  • Hexagon tip (size 5), plus tip (size 00), minus tip (size 3) of screwdrivers
  • Tweezers
  • Long nose pliers
  • Solder
  • Butane jet lighter
  • Lubricating grease (optional)

EV3 Large Motor (Motor Replacement)

Procedures

  1. Remove outer cover using minus tip screwdriver starting from top
  2. Remove 2 inner screws and 7 outer screws using hexagon tip screwdriver (Screw length: 4 short, 4 medium, 1 long)
  3. Extract motor together with chipset, make sure white gear remain intact
  4. Remove black gear together with tip before unscrewing motor plate
  5. Transfer chipset to new motor using solder (red wire to positive terminal of motor)
  6. Transfer pinion gear to new motor using pliers with butane jet lighter (skip if motor comes with pinion gear)
  7. Apply lubricating grease (optional) before putting everything back in

  1. Insert screwdriver tip into top of panel, assert downward force until both inner clamp is shown
  2. Insert screwdriver tip into inclined part of side panel, reach into inner part & assert downward force

EV3 Medium Motor (Motor Replacement)

Procedures

  1. Insert minus tip screwdriver into one side of body by dislocating both square brackets before inserting to other side
  2. Remove solder on motor attached chipset & insert upward force to separate chipset from motor attachment
  3. Insert upward force to motor from attachment until back of motor is shown
  4. Insert downward force to remove motor from attachment
  5. Transfer pinion gear to new motor using pliers with butane jet lighter (skip if motor comes with pinion gear)
  6. Apply lubricating grease (optional) before putting everything back in
